Pollardwater’s HydrantPro™ diffusers, are designed to optimize the performance and safety of fire hydrant maintenance operations. These diffusers are essential tools for diffusing a fire hydrant’s discharge during routine flushing and flow testing. The unique bell design of the HydrantPro™ diffusers has been lab-tested to determine the optimal size and placement of the diffusing bar and disc, minimizing backflow turbulence and providing more reliable Pitot Gauge readings.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Safety: The diffusers help prevent property damage and traffic disruption by diffusing and directing the flow away from sensitive areas.
  • Reliable Readings: The dual read gauge provides accurate pressure (PSI) and flow (GPM) measurements, essential for benchmarking hydrant performance.
  • Durability: Constructed from lightweight aluminum, these diffusers are designed to withstand the rigors of regular use while reducing strain on the fire hydrant’s hose nozzles.
  • Versatility: The swivel adapter allows for easy adjustment of the discharge direction, making it adaptable to various environments and situations.

Maintenance Requirements

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the HydrantPro™ diffusers, regular maintenance is essential:

Inspection

  • Regularly inspect the diffuser for any signs of wear or damage, especially the gauge, swivel adapter, and three-way ball valve.
  • Check the KEMX Socket Saver for any signs of clogging or corrosion.

Cleaning

  • After each use, clean the diffuser thoroughly to remove any debris or sediment that may have accumulated.
  • Ensure the nozzle connection is free from debris before attaching the diffuser to the hydrant.

Storage

  • Store the diffuser in a dry, clean environment to prevent corrosion and damage.
  • Use the carrying case (P190140075525) to protect the diffuser and its components during storage and transport.

Calibration

  • Periodically calibrate the dual read gauge to ensure accurate pressure and flow readings.
  • Replace the gauge if it shows signs of inaccuracy or damage.

Component Replacement

  • Replace worn or damaged components such as the Pitot assembly (PP67512), inner tube (PP675013), and three-way ball valve (PP675012) as needed.
  • Use only genuine Pollardwater replacement parts to maintain the integrity and performance of the diffuser.

Usage Instructions

Preparation

  • Always wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and work boots.
  • Inspect the area around the hydrant and remove any potential trip hazards.
  • Locate the valve box cover for access to the shut-off gate valve.

Attachment

  • Remove the hydrant’s 2-1/2” nozzle cap and clean the nozzle to remove debris.
  • Attach the HydrantPro™ to the hydrant by turning the swivel adapter clockwise onto the nozzle.
  • Rotate the HydrantPro™ body to aim the discharge flow away from landscaping or traffic and tighten the swivel adapter to secure the diffuser’s orientation.

Operation

  • Turn the handle on the three-way ball valve to point at the hydrant to bleed off entrapped air and flush debris from the Pitot tube.
  • Slowly open the hydrant to full flow and turn the three-way ball valve handle to point at the gauge to obtain pressure and flow measurements.
  • After completing the flow test, slowly shut off the hydrant flow, turn the three-way ball valve to point at the hydrant to leave the Pitot assembly and gauge to air dry, and remove all components from the hydrant.

Applications

The HydrantPro™ diffusers are primarily used for:

  • Routine Flushing: Ensuring hydrants are clear of debris and functioning correctly.
  • Flow Testing: Measuring the flow rate and pressure to benchmark hydrant performance for future comparisons.

These diffusers are not intended for high-rise building sprinkler system certification.

  • Material: Lightweight aluminum body
  • Color: Yellow
  • Gauge: Dual Read Gauge with KEMX Socket Saver to prevent freezing, clogging, and corrosion
  • Swivel Adapter: Allows rotation to aim discharge away from traffic and landscaping
  • Additional Components: Includes a three-way ball valve to isolate the gauge and/or release entrapped air during a flow test reading
  • Connection: 2-1/2” FNST
