Features
- NFPA Compliance: Meets NFPA 1982, 2018 Edition requirements for PASS devices.
- Intrinsically Safe: Certified for hazardous environments (UL913 / CSA standards).
- High‑Output Audible Alarm: 98+ dBA sound pressure level at 500°F (260°C) for strong, clear emergency signaling in extreme heat.
- Highly Visible LEDs: Bright visual indicators enhance visibility in smoke‑filled or low‑light environments.
- Rugged Hardware: Large stainless‑steel grip‑clip and D‑ring securely attach to turnout gear.
- Automatic Activation: Activated by a patented Accountability Key that doubles as a tally‑board tag with an identity window.
- Motion & Manual Alerting: Detects firefighter inactivity and provides both automatic and manual alarm activation.
- Heat Stress Alarm: Alerts firefighters when temperatures reach dangerous thresholds.
- Data Logging: Records all PASS status changes (On, Off, Alarm) for accountability and post‑incident documentation.
- Long Battery Life: Delivers up to 200 hours in sensing mode.
- Stand‑Alone Operation: Functions as a primary PASS, even without SCBA, ensuring complete protection during all phases of an incident—including overhaul.
What Is It?
The SuperPASS® 5 is a compact, stand‑alone Personal Alert Safety System designed to detect firefighter distress through motion sensing and manual activation. It provides both loud audible alarms and bright LED alerts, maintaining full operational readiness regardless of whether the firefighter is wearing SCBA. It is the smallest, lightest, and loudest stand‑alone PASS available from Grace Industries.
How Is It Used?
Firefighters attach the device to turnout gear using the stainless‑steel clip or D‑ring. When the Accountability Key is removed, the unit automatically arms itself. It continuously monitors movement and triggers a pre‑alarm followed by a full alarm if the user becomes motionless. The alarm can also be activated manually at any time. After the incident, logged data can be reviewed for documentation, training, and compliance.
Who Uses It?
- Municipal firefighters
- Wildland firefighters
- Urban Search and Rescue teams
- Fire‑Police and rapid‑response units
- Any responder needing stand‑alone PASS protection without relying on SCBA
The system is designed for all environments, including IDLH and post‑fire overhaul, ensuring continuous safety coverage.
Maintenance Information
- Inspect the PASS before each use to ensure LEDs, audio alarm, and sensors are functioning.
- Replace batteries as needed; the system provides up to 200 hours of sensing mode.
- After incidents, download logged data for review and reset the internal clock when required.
- Clean the housing and hardware according to department protocols to maintain visibility and reliability.
- Ensure the Accountability Key and manual activation button function smoothly.
What Is It Used With?
Although SuperPASS® 5 is a stand‑alone PASS, it is part of a larger Grace firefighter safety ecosystem:
- SuperPASS® 5X – Can be upgraded to TPASS® 5.
- TPASS® 5 – Adds RF capabilities such as MAYDAY, EVAC, PAR acknowledgment, and automated roll‑call.
- In‑Command® First‑In & Full‑Crew Software – Provides automated accountability, electronic PAR checks, MAYDAY identification, EVAC acknowledgment, and keeps the voice radio channel free for operational traffic.
- SC500‑IC SuperCELL® Commander Unit – Monitors personnel, sends global EVAC signals, and displays alarm activity.
- TPASS® Micro Repeater – Extends RF coverage inside large or complex structures.
These optional components enhance accountability, emergency signaling, and incident‑wide tracking when departments choose to expand beyond stand‑alone PASS operation.
