PHOS-CHEK® Class A Foam concentrate is specially formulated to enhance the effectiveness of water in firefighting. The unique combination of surfactants in PHOS-CHEK WD881 significantly reduces water’s surface tension. When mixed with air, it creates a superior foam blanket that surrounds fuels with a thick layer of water. This barrier between the fuel and the fire knocks down the fire faster than water alone, allowing firefighters to see the areas of application. This increased effectiveness reduces the amount of water needed to extinguish the fire, minimizes water damage, and enhances firefighter safety through quicker knockdown and reduced mop-up/overhaul requirements.

Features

  • Highly Effective: Ideal for fighting Class A fires when mixed with water at use rates of 0.1% to 1.0%.
  • Versatile Applications: Proven effectiveness in Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS), structural firefighting, forest fire suppression, prescribed burning, mine fires, industrial Class A fires, and hydrocarbon spill fires.
  • Concentrated Formula: One of the most concentrated Class A Foam products available, requiring lower use rates to achieve expected results.
  • PFAS-Free: Does not contain PFAS chemicals, including PFOS or PFOA. Class B foams, which contain fluorinated surfactants, should not be used on Class A fires. Never mix Class A and Class B foam concentrates.

Qualifications and Uses

PHOS-CHEK WD881 is fully tested and qualified for use by the USDA Forest Service under Specification 5100-307b for all application methods, including ground engines, Canadair water scooper aircraft, single-engine air tankers (SEATS), and fixed-tank helicopters. It is compatible with fresh water, seawater, and long-term retardant. Foam characteristics are not affected by freeze-thaw cycles.

  • UL-Listed Wetting Agent: At 0.1% use rate for Class A fires and 0.25% use rate for Class B fires.
  • Safe and Biodegradable: Contains no hazardous ingredients, is readily biodegradable, and has no flash point, making it safe to use near open flames.
  • Meets NFPA 1150 Requirements: Superior performance for use in CAF systems.
