The Darley Hydrant Diffuser is a heavy-duty hydrant testing accessory designed to safely reduce and redirect high-velocity water discharge during hydrant flushing and flow testing. It protects nearby property, vehicles, and landscaping while allowing accurate system performance measurements.

Features

  • Slows and disperses hydrant discharge through internal steel diffusion grids to reduce water force damage
  • Adjustable pattern diverter redirects water flow downward or to the side for controlled discharge
  • Inlet adapter includes gauge slots for secure pitot tube placement and accurate pressure readings
  • Limits discharge distance to approximately 5 feet, even at flows up to 1,125 GPM
  • Pipe-style projection functions as a handle for easy threading onto hydrants
  • Fully compliant with American Insurance Association Special Interest Bulletins

How It Is Used

The hydrant diffuser threads directly onto a standard 2½-inch hydrant outlet before opening the hydrant. As water flows through the unit, internal steel grids diffuse and slow the stream while the adjustable diverter directs discharge to a safe direction. A pitot gauge can be inserted into the inlet slots to measure pressure before diffusion, ensuring accurate flow testing results.

Who Uses It

  • Fire departments conducting hydrant inspections and flow testing
  • Municipal water departments performing routine flushing and maintenance
  • Fire protection contractors and inspectors
  • Water system maintenance crews operating in urban or high-traffic areas

Maintenance

  • Inspect diffuser grids regularly for debris buildup after use
  • Rinse with clean water following hydrant testing to remove sediment
  • Check threads and inlet adapter for wear or damage
  • Verify diverter adjustment mechanism operates smoothly before each use

Storage

  • Store in a dry area to prevent corrosion
  • Keep away from debris and loose tools that may damage the steel grids
  • Do not stack heavy equipment on top of the diffuser during storage
  • Ensure threads are clean and capped when not in use

  • Connection Size: 2.5-inch NST threads
  • Maximum Flow Handling: Up to 1,125 GPM
  • Discharge Distance: Limited to approximately 5 feet
  • Weight: Approximately 10 lbs
  • Construction: Steel diffusion grids with durable metal housing
  • Compliance: American Insurance Association Special Interest Bulletins
  • Model: CEB-PHD-25
