The Float Dock® Strainer is a specialized firefighting tool designed to draw water from ponds, lakes, or streams in even the most shallow conditions all while preventing debris from entering the pump system. It operates below surface scum and above sand or muck, ensuring clean water intake and protecting pump components from damage. Fully NFPA 1142 compliant, this strainer is engineered for reliability and efficiency in demanding environments.

Features

  • Self-leveling design: Maintains optimal position in the water to prevent suction loss and whirlpooling.
  • Polyethylene or Aluminum molded float: Durable construction with an integrated carry handle for easy transport and tie-off.
  • Al-mag castings: Proven to be the toughest in the industry for long-lasting performance.
  • No vortex plate needed: The float naturally prevents whirlpool formation.
  • Long handle swivels: Equipped with standard NH thread for secure connections.
  • 20-30% more open intake area: Maximizes water flow for superior pumping capacity.
  • Detachable strainer: Can be used separately as a box strainer for added versatility.
  • Drafts in as little as 5” (13 cm) of water

How is it used?

Attach the Float Dock® Strainer to your fire hose or pump intake using the NST female thread connection. Place the unit in a water source such as a pond or stream. The float keeps the strainer at the correct depth, ensuring clean water intake without debris or sediment. For alternative use, detach the strainer and deploy it as a box strainer.

Who uses it?

Fire departments, emergency response teams, and rural firefighting units rely on the Float Dock® Strainer for drafting water from natural sources during firefighting operations. It’s also used by forestry services and industrial fire brigades.

Maintenance information

Rinse the strainer and float thoroughly after each use to remove dirt and debris. Inspect the swivel handle and thread connections for wear or damage. Lubricate moving parts as needed and store in a dry location to prevent corrosion.

Storage information

Store the Float Dock® Strainer in a clean, dry area away from direct sunlight and chemicals. Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of the float to maintain its shape and integrity.
