The Kit-A – Chlorine Institute Cylinder Emergency Kit-A is vital for firefighters and emergency responders dealing with chlorine leaks. This kit is the only US DOT-approved capping device that can be applied to a leaking chlorine cylinder and legally transported over the road. It is engineered to handle low-pressure cylinders (<150 PSI) and is compatible with US DOT 3A480 and 3AA480 chlorine cylinders.
Features
What Is It?
The Chlorine Institute Emergency Kit‑A is a standardized, professionally engineered emergency response system designed to safely contain leaks from chlorine cylinders. It is produced to the exact design specifications of the Chlorine Institute and is used on 100‑lb and 150‑lb cylinders built to DOT 3A480 and 3AA480 standards.
How Is It Used?
The kit is deployed when a chlorine cylinder develops a leak at the valve, fusible plug, or cylinder wall. Responders select the appropriate device (Device #1, #2, or #8), follow the included instruction booklets, and apply the mechanical sealing tools and gaskets to contain the leak. This allows safe control of chlorine hazards and, when permitted, legal over‑the‑road transport of a leaking cylinder under U.S. DOT regulations
