This advanced firefighter turnout coat is a high-performance protective garment designed to safeguard first responders in extreme environments. Engineered with a multi-layered system that balances thermal protection, breathability, and durability, it helps reduce heat stress while maintaining comfort and mobility. Built for performance and longevity, this coat is ideal for departments prioritizing health, safety, and operational efficiency.

Features

  • Heat Stress Mitigation: The combination of Stedair® 3000 moisture barrier and CoreCXP™ thermal liner promotes airflow and moisture evaporation, helping regulate body temperature during intense operations.
  • Durability Through Washing: Maintains thermal performance and structural integrity even after repeated laundering, thanks to resilient materials and reinforced stitching.
  • Comfortable Mobility: Armor™ AP outer shell is lightweight and flexible, allowing natural movement without compromising protection.
  • Moisture Management: Stedair® 3000 barrier blocks external moisture while allowing internal vapor to escape, keeping the wearer dry and reducing internal heat buildup.
  • High Thermal Protection: TPP rating of 39.50 ensures reliable insulation against flashover and radiant heat.
  • Secure Closure System: Zipper and hook & loop closure system provides a tight seal against heat, debris, and contaminants.
  • Enhanced Visibility: 3M™ ScotchLite™ Triple Trim in Lime/Silver ensures visibility in low-light and smoky conditions.
  • Functional Storage: Includes radio pocket, dual handwarmer pockets, flashlight holder, and mic clip for quick access to essential tools.
  • Ergonomic Cuffs: Nomex® knit wrist with thumb loop and PCA-coated aramid cuffs offer secure fit and added wrist protection.

How is it used?

This coat is worn during structural firefighting, rescue missions, and emergency response scenarios. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with turnout pants and other PPE, forming a complete barrier against heat, flame, and hazardous conditions. The gear’s layout supports fast access to radios, flashlights, and other tools, enhancing operational readiness.

Who uses it?

Professional firefighters, municipal fire departments, industrial emergency teams, and wildland response units rely on this coat for its balance of protection, comfort, and operational performance. It’s especially suited for departments operating in high-heat or high-humidity regions where heat stress is a major concern.

Increase your heat stress protection and comfort

How does one achieve absolute performance utilizing the same fibers (meta-aramid, para-aramid) used in Fusion™ and TenCate Advance™…and not increase the cost 25-50%? The answer lies in Filament Twill Technology™. Like PBI Max™, Armor AP is powered by DuPont™ Kevlar® filament in a twill weave. The result is a lighter weight outer shell (6.5 oz.) with improved comfort/flexibility, improved strength and durability, and equal to improved protection.

Performance Benefits

  • Moisture Barrier Technology: The Stedair® 3000 moisture barrier blocks external water while allowing internal moisture vapor to escape. This prevents the buildup of humidity inside the coat, which is a major contributor to heat stress.
  • Thermal Liner Performance: The CoreCXP™ 2-layer thermal liner maintains a high Thermal Protective Performance (TPP) rating of 39.50 and a Total Heat Loss (THL) rating of 246.30. This balance ensures that heat is kept out, but excess body heat can still escape.
  • Lightweight Outer Shell: The Armor™ AP shell is only 6.5 oz, which is lighter than many traditional shells. Less weight means less exertion and less retained heat, helping firefighters stay cooler during extended wear.
  • Ergonomic Design: The coat’s cut and construction allow for airflow and movement, reducing the feeling of being “sealed in.” This helps prevent overheating during high-output tasks like climbing, crawling, or carrying gear.
  • Cuff and Closure System: While the coat seals tightly to protect against heat and debris, the knit wrist with thumb loop and PCA-coated aramid cuffs are designed to maintain protection without restricting circulation or trapping heat.

Does breathability compromise protection?

No. The materials used are engineered to be thermally protective and breathable simultaneously. The high THL rating confirms that the coat allows heat and moisture to escape without sacrificing protection against flame, radiant heat, or steam.

How does repeated washing affect heat stress performance?

Repeated washing does not degrade the coat’s ability to manage heat stress. The Stedair® 3000 and CoreCXP™ liner are both tested to maintain performance after multiple laundering cycles. In fact, regular cleaning can improve breathability by removing contaminants that clog the fabric and reduce airflow.

How does it feel and move during use?

The coat is designed for natural movement. The lightweight shell and ergonomic patterning allow firefighters to bend, reach, and twist without resistance. The materials flex with the body, reducing fatigue and discomfort. The knit wrist with thumb loop also keeps sleeves in place without restricting motion, and the semi-bellow handwarmer pockets are positioned for easy access without bulk.

Maintenance information

Routine inspection and cleaning are essential. The coat is machine washable following standard care guidelines. It withstands repeated laundering without degradation of thermal or moisture barrier performance. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and high-temperature drying. Air drying or low-heat tumble drying is recommended.

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Hang the coat to preserve its shape and prevent compression of thermal layers. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or contaminants. Do not store in sealed plastic containers, which can trap moisture and degrade materials over time.
