What Is It?
The Dashboard Commander™ Incident Command System is a mobile command board developed specifically for use within a chief officer or command vehicle. Unlike traditional command boards that are often used outside the vehicle, the Dashboard Commander™ allows Incident Commanders to work from a quieter, more controlled environment while maintaining access to mobile radios and communications equipment.
The board provides a centralized location for incident documentation, accountability tracking, resource management, tactical planning, and scene sketching during emergency responses.
How Is It Used?
After placing the command vehicle in park, the Incident Commander mounts the Dashboard Commander™ to the steering wheel using the integrated padded bail.
The commander can then:
- Record the initial size-up and incident conditions.
- Develop strategic and tactical objectives.
- Track responding apparatus and officers using magnetic tags.
- Monitor crew assignments and locations.
- Document personnel accountability reports (PAR).
- Record hazards, utilities, and search results.
- Sketch building layouts, fireground conditions, or incident scenes.
- Monitor elapsed incident time using the integrated stopwatch clock.
The magnetic accountability system provides a visual representation of personnel and apparatus assignments, helping maintain organization throughout the incident.
