The Kussmaul Auto Eject systems, are designed to automatically disconnect the shoreline when the vehicle's engine is started. These systems are specifically engineered for emergency vehicles to prevent broken cables and ensure reliable power connection.
Features
Shared
- Automatic Disconnect: The solenoid mechanism ejects the plug when the engine is cranked, eliminating the risk of driving away with the shoreline still connected.
- Weatherproof Cover: A spring-loaded cover prevents water from entering the connector when not in use.
- Durability: Built to withstand harsh conditions, ensuring long-term reliability.
- Voltage and Amperage: Both models operate at 120 Volts AC and support 15 Amps.
- Warranty: Each unit comes with a 2-year warranty.
Differences
Amperage Rating
- Y885: Rated for 15 Amps
- AF527: Rated for 20 Amps
Wire Gauge for Installation
- Y885: Requires 14 AWG wire for power connections.
- AF527: Requires 12 AWG wire for power connections
Tools Needed for Installation
To install the Kussmaul Auto Eject systems, you will need:
- Drill with various drill bits (1/2", 3/16", and 2-1/4" diameter)
- Center punch
- Screwdriver
- Wire crimping tool
- Ring lugs
- 16 AWG wire (for solenoid connections)
- 14 AWG wire (for power connections on Y885)
- 12 AWG wire (for power connections on AF527)
- 4 Amp fuse
Installation Instructions
Mounting the Auto Eject:
- Locate a convenient place on the vehicle with at least 4” clearance behind the mounting panel and 3-3/4” below the center line.
- Use the provided template to mark and drill holes: two 1/2” diameter holes, four 3/16” diameter mounting holes, and one 2-1/4” clearance hole.
Wiring the Auto Eject:
- Connect one terminal of the solenoid to the vehicle ground using 16 AWG wire.
- Connect the other solenoid terminal to the vehicle’s starter with a 4 Amp fuse inline using 16 AWG wire.
- Crimp the ring lugs on the wires and connect the Green, Black, and White power wires to the vehicle’s accessories. Use 14 AWG wire for model 091-18WP-120 and 12 AWG wire for model 091-20WP-1202.
Testing and Operation
- Verify all wiring connections.
- Measure the DC voltage across the solenoid while cranking the engine; it should match the battery voltage and eject the plug.
- Ensure AC power is applied to the vehicle-mounted battery charger when the connector is installed
